ARMCHAIR PLAY

PLAY is what happens when a designer stops solving and starts playing. A cylinder, a loop, a block — several geometric volumes meeting at angles that shouldn’t work, and producing an armchair that turns out to be genuinely comfortable to sit in. An accent chair with the presence of a sculpture.

A chair assembled from geometry

Look at PLAY from the front and you see a bagel: one round volume standing in for a backrest. Step to the side and the geometry comes apart again — a cylinder for the seat, a loop for the back, two blocks holding it off the floor. Nothing here is decoration. Every element is a structural piece doing an obvious job, and the silhouette is simply the honest sum of them.

That is what makes PLAY read differently from most sculptural armchairs. It isn’t an organic blob softened into furniture — it’s furniture built out of primitives. In a room it works like punctuation: one statement chair that gives a calm interior something to argue with.

Dmytro Kozinenko designed PLAY by going back to the way a child builds: stack the shapes, see what stands, keep what makes you smile. The result is emotional and sincere rather than clever — an object that provokes interaction. People sit sideways in it, hook a leg over the arm, turn it to face the window. That is the point.

Awards and press

Best of Year 2022 — Interior Design Magazine, New York. PLAY won Best of Year in Interior Design Magazine’s international awards — and WOO became the first Ukrainian furniture design brand ever awarded there.

IDA — International Design Awards, Bronze. The jury recognised PLAY in the Home / Furniture category — the conceptual and the practical in one object.

Interior Design Magazine, «Chair Meets Bagel». The US design press ran a feature on PLAY and on our Drova Pouf.

NYCxDESIGN Awards 2026 — Honoree. PLAY was named an Honoree at the 2026 NYCxDESIGN Awards, four years after its first prize — a rare thing for a piece that is no longer new.

Since then PLAY has travelled: it has drawn crowds at design fairs in Paris, Vienna and Los Angeles, it is bought by customers as far away as Melbourne, and it has been featured by editors in Korea.

Care. Every fabric behaves differently, so care notes travel with the chair. As a rule: vacuum with a soft brush, blot spills straight away rather than rubbing them in, and keep PLAY out of direct sunlight — colour is what goes first. Anything more serious is a job for professional upholstery cleaning, not for home chemistry.

Fabrics — including your own

PLAY is upholstered to order, and the fabric changes the chair completely. In a soft wool the loop reads quiet and almost architectural; in velvet PLAY becomes a block of pure colour; in bouclé it gains a texture you want to touch.

Our own range runs from tight wool weaves through velvets to bouclé — Aura, Oreo, Venus Velvet, Woolland, Candy, Pienza, Pitigliano, Bisentium, Jungla, Karakorum, Karandash, Nimbus, Nuvola and more. And if none of them is the one you had in mind, we upholster in the customer’s own material: send us your fabric, or the reference, and we’ll build PLAY in it. We send samples before you decide — just ask.
